For so many of the global workforce, does the future of remote work — or at least some sort of hybrid arrangement — have an impact on the email security we’re all missing? Oliver Paterson, Director of Product Management VIPRE Securitybelieve so.
“People now expect you to respond to things in less time,” Paterson said. “It puts extra pressure and stress on the individual, which can also lead to further mistakes. [Employees] If they get an email with a link, they won’t know that much — and it’s actually easier for them to click on it. “
A cybercriminal’s best friend is human error, and distraction is the perfect bedfellow. The remote work calendar means meetings are now held in virtual rooms rather than face-to-face. Maybe a good chance to quickly check a few emails during downtime? This is also a perfect opportunity for attackers to lure you into a phishing attack.
“When we talk about data breaches, and anything around cyberattacks and ransomware being deployed on people’s machines, email is at the top of the list,” Patterson said of education. “We just need to be very clear that even though we think these things are changing, [you] More security needs to be added, and the methods and tactics people use to get into your business are still very similar.
“Attacks may be more sophisticated, but the actual attack vectors are the same as they were 10-15 years ago.”

VIPRE has many solutions to this age-old problem, and the email security product side of the business is largely the responsibility of Paterson.One such product is VIPRE secure delivery, which focuses on misaddressed emails and prevents data breaches. “Everyone has emailed the wrong person at some point in their life,” Paterson said. “It depends on how serious that is.”
Patterson noticed a large FMCG brand where a very senior C-level executive had the same name as someone else in the business much lower down. Naturally, a lot of emails were sent to the wrong places. “You’re trying to make people very careful, but we also have technological solutions now to help with these issues,” Paterson said. “It makes sure the business is aware of that and then puts it in one place.”
Another part of the product portfolio is EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response). VIPRE’s goal is to “remove the complexity of EDR management for SMBs and IT teams.” Part of that is knowing what the organization really wants.
As many organizational surveys have shown, the basics are there.Participate in a study by the Enterprise Security Group (ESG) Released in October In terms of ransomware readiness. Respondents cited network security (43%), backup infrastructure security (40%), endpoints (39%), email (36%) and data encryption (36%) as top prevention areas. Many security vendors offer this and more — but how hard is it to filter out the noise?
“People understand that they need endpoint solutions and email security solutions. There’s a lot of competition out there, and they’re all screaming for different things,” Paterson said. “So it’s really about getting to the bottom of what they actually need as a business. That’s where we at VIPRE try to make it as easy as possible for our customers.
“A lot of companies are doing EDR right now, but what we’re trying to do is boil it down to raw elements that every business needs, maybe not all the bells and whistles, maybe 99% of organizations don’t need,” Patterson added road.
“We are a company that takes our customers and partners very seriously and we treat everyone as an individual business. We get a lot of comments [from customers] Some of the biggest suppliers out there just treat them as a number. “

“Look carefully at those areas, those threat vectors and how they enter the business, and make sure you have those industry-grade systems in place,” he said. “A lot of businesses can get complacent and just update the same stuff over and over without realizing that there are new features and additions. Missent emails are a huge problem – I’d say most businesses don’t have any proper measures.
“Ask ‘where are the risk areas for your business?’ and learn more about those, then make sure those layers of protection are in place to help counter ransomware attacks and other factors.”
